Beauty is hidden in the details in Cathy You’s photographs

Beauty is hidden in the details. This is the key to the shots of Cathy You, a New York-based photographer.

People are the object of analysis in Cathy You’s work, but the focus is never on the body in its entirety, but on the details, the folds of the skin, the lines, the shadows, the texture of the skin. It is as if the photographer wants to go deeper, to dig into the souls of the people posing in front of her lens and bring out their best parts.

The end result is a collection of deeply intimate and delicate shots: the lights are soft, the models’ skin creates a gentle contrast with the blackness of their hair and eyelashes, the colors are desaturated, as if they were covered by that patina typical of somewhat old photographs.
