A few days ago Spazio Maiocchi reopened its doors to the public, presenting “Colorado”, an exhibition and book by Peter Sutherland. 

Born in 1976, Peter Sutherland is an American artist and photographer who was born in Colorado but now lives and works in New York. During last year’s lockdown, he left the city to return to his home state where, during walks and hikes, he reconnected with nature and created a series of shots that tell the story of the place.
What is striking about his work is a different point of view than usual. Many people associate nature with the idea of holidays, periods of relaxation and places far from home, but for Peter it is the opposite: for him nature means coming home and it is the city that gives him that holiday feeling. 

“A lot of my work is autobiographical: I’ve used photography to document my own experiences—and being from Colorado, nature was always part of those experiences.”

At Spazio Maiocchi there will be medium and large format photographs, a series of collages and a billboard. A book has also been produced for the occasion with the complete series of photographs and collages and enriched by a conversation with Leo Fitzpatrick and a preface by Maia Ruth Lee.

The exhibition “Colorado” is curated by KALEIDOSCOPE and supported by Carhartt WIP and Slam Jam and will remain open to the public until Friday 11 June.
