For this second appointment, we are pleased to introduce you to the HPO, a new collective born in 2017. HPO took shape around the Architecture Faculty of Ferrara, as a reaction to a condition of boredom after days of Brazilian samba and Swiss precision.

They started organizing lectures, events and workshops as students and suddenly it became the opportunity to understand the architect’s position “reducing the distance between what we are taught architecture is and what architecture can actually be – they say – this experience led us to the idea that making is better than rendering, creating our own opportunity to actively take part in the architectural scene. HPO is an experiment aiming to cross the line between an architectural practice and a cleaning agency.” A real interdisciplinary experience.

Supercinema is one of their latest works. They transformed Piazza Gobetti in an open cinema. Here there was the first multiplex in Ferrara named Apollo, a place of celebration and aggregation and HPO realized an installation made by two construction fences assembled with a polycarbonate screen and a projector support form a simple device, a segment repeated ten times along the longitudinal axis of the square. Ten different stories through audiovisual material produced by the “ilturco” cultural association.

Andrea Viso’s graphics mix vintage and digital

Andrea Viso’s graphics mix vintage and digital

Giulia Guido · 8 months ago · Design

The artists’ talent is to see in an object, a landscape, a person something different from what everyone else sees. Then, to restore their imagination, each artist chooses the method that seems most appropriate to them, but also the one that suits them best. Andrea Viso‘s is digital art.

Andrea has Venezuelan origins, but today he is based in Paris and creates graphics in which everything is possible. The lens of a camera becomes a washing machine, the green carpet of a billiard table is a huge pool and so on.

Andrea Viso’s work is characterized by a stylistic choice that imitates, or celebrates, the advertisements of the ’50s, with vintage and lived-in look.

A step inside Gaudí’s eclectic Casa Vicens

A step inside Gaudí’s eclectic Casa Vicens

Collater.al Contributors · 8 months ago · Design

Architectural photographer David Cardelús recently shot for the UNESCO World Heritage Site, which also included Casa Vicens among its excellence. The house dates from 1880 and was designed and built by Antoni Gaudí for a wealthy mediator, Manuel Vicens, this building follows the great tradition of decorated cottages commissioned by high society of that century.

The city of Barcelona was built to surround Casa Vicens, but at the time of its construction it was in a village known as Gràcia. The house is considered to be Gaudí’s first major architectural work and one of the buildings that gave rise to the European Modernist movement. It has many oriental and Islamic architectural motifs.

It certainly does not go unnoticed, not only because of its architectural appearance but also because of its bright colours. From the primary red of the external finishes to the cerulean blue ceilings, to the super-coloured flowered tiles both indoors and outdoors, they give a lively personality to every corner of the house.

One has the impression of looking at a gigantic mosaic that does not form an image as a whole but gives life to an eclectic and amazing mix of colours, bas-reliefs, carvings and frescoes. Who wouldn’t want to live there?

Take a look at this sensetional home.

Shepherd Studio designs a giant inflatable for Notre Dame

Shepherd Studio designs a giant inflatable for Notre Dame

Collater.al Contributors · 8 months ago · Design

The french senate decided to rebuild Notre Dame cathedral to its “last known visual state”, but the Shepherd Studio conceptually developed a possible temporary reconstruction of the cathedral.

The proposal is entitled “Divine Intervention” and includes a huge protective layer in the form of an inflatable balloon, which would rest on the mammoth Gothic monument that, obviusly, would not be a permanent solution. The floating giant would take flight at night and descend during the day.

Shepherd Studio’s vision strongly contrasts with the surrounding context. The balloon takes the original shape of the structure and becomes a fantastic inflatable, sitting on top of the prestigious cathedral.

Shepherd Studio is a multi-service design studio, which aims to provide creative schemes ranging from architectural, spatial, digital and product design. The method of the same, provides a transdisciplinary way of thinking, in research to actualize the possibilities of human imagination through an analytical, rational and logical investigation. The studio also worked on a series of residential, social and cultural development projects between Bahrain and the UK.

Guiyang Zhongshuge Bookstore, the bookcase that surrounds you endlessly

Guiyang Zhongshuge Bookstore, the bookcase that surrounds you endlessly

Giulia Guido · 8 months ago · Design

We’ve already talked about the Chinese studio x+living and the library that looks like a work of Escher and today we’re back to talk about it because we found another library worthy of note. It’s called Guiyang Zhongshuge Bookstore and it’s in yen shang fang zhou, China. The entrance gives onto the square of a shopping center and from the outside, everything seems normal, the magic is enclosed within.

The architects thought of creating a place that would start from the culture and importance of books and transform them into a sensory experience. As soon as you enter, you find yourself in a corridor, the highlight of the bookcase, which looks like a tunnel and completely envelops the visitor. The walls and ceiling are covered with shelves and books and the floor is mirrored, creating an optical illusion that transforms the room into an immersive installation.

The corridor leads to intimate and isolated study rooms, perfect for finding all the concentration and silence necessary for reading. Here, too, the ceiling and mirror floor lengthen the bookcases to infinity, making the space seem much larger.

The library ends with a monumental conference room and a children’s area consisting of a quiet, white room.

Discover the beauty of the Guiyang Zhongshuge Bookstore in our gallery.
