Desert Palisades Guardhouse, between natural and artificial

Looking at the Desert Palisades Guardhouse, the latest creation by Studio AR&D Architects, one cannot understand where architecture ends and where nature takes over.

The materials used, steel, wood and glass, almost manage to camouflage the structure in the characteristic landscape offered by the California desert, and the small house, which was originally conceived as an entrance to a large residential complex, thus becomes a real gem.

What makes this project special and unique is the external portico that seems to rest on a large boulder, but instead only touches it. This touching without touching represents the dialogue and the relationship between natural and artificial, which sometimes resemble each other so much that it seems to be the same thing.

The Desert Palisades Guardhouse can be compared to an oasis in the middle of the desert.
