Earth Chapel, a new idea for a sacred place

If you belong to that category of people who, when they enter a church or a sacred place overflowing with decorations, marble, statues, candles, lights, frescoes, think it’s a bit too much, then you absolutely must discover the Earth Chapel project signed by JPAG
The creatives of the Lebanese studio, who we met a short time ago when we talked about their “Related Stories“, a story about how apartments have changed due to the pandemic, return to make us think with a project as simple as surprising.

Earth Chapel is the idea of a sacred place according to the designers of JPAG, who imagined it in a place far from the city, from noise and chaos, hidden among the trees of Al-Ozer Forest, on Mount Lebanon. A perfect place to rediscover the connection with nature and to get back in touch with one’s inner self.

The chapel looks like a huge box with the base and the roof made of concrete and the four facades made entirely of perforated wood, from which the sun’s rays can delicately penetrate during the day and at night the artificial light transforms the structure into a sort of lantern in the middle of the dark forest.
As in every chapel, Earth Chapel also has an altar and seats, and to emphasize the sacredness of the place, the entrance is designed at a height that forces those who enter to bow, as a sign of respect.

Finally, although JPAG’s creatives designed the chapel surrounded by the Al-Ozer, its foundation and the fact that it is raised about a meter above the ground make it suitable for any location.
