Ray Oranges is an illustrator that aims to always represent the fundamental idea. His works are built by subtraction, through simple, harmonious and satured shapes.
The task of telling is not left to the visible shapes, not only to them. Empty are the real protagonists. The spaces left to the spectator, filled only by nuances. In fact, Oranges seems to want to create a dialogue with the viewer on the meaning of the work. It reserves the task of showing the essence, asking us to translate and complete.
His aesthetic taste stems from graphic and architectural design studies. In addition to the essential features of his birthland, Calabria, a skinny and luminous place for exaltation.
“My idea is that the illustrations need action even by those who look at them, to be understood.”
Oranges boasts prestigious collaborations for international brands and magazine such as The New York Times, Monocle, Airbnb, De Beers, Wired and Il Sole 24 Ore.
Currently, his works are on display at the Illustri Festival, until June 25 in Vicenza.
