Brain Dead marks Ghost in the Shell’s 30th anniversary with a capsule

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Ghost in the Shell, Brain Dead drops a capsule collection that channels the spirit of one of Japanese animation’s defining pillars. It’s a move that pulls the franchise’s cyberpunk imagery back into the present, timed to coincide with the first major exhibition dedicated to the saga in Tokyo, hosted inside the futuristic spaces of Tokyo Node.

The project is conceived as a real bridge between cinema and fashion culture. The collection’s launch is paired with a run of special screenings of the Ghost in the Shell across key U.S. cities—from Portland to Los Angeles, with stops in New York and Seattle—turning the drop into a physical, collective moment that feels closer to a premiere than a standard retail release.

Aesthetically, the capsule draws straight from Shirow Masamune’s original manga, reworking its visual codes through Brain Dead’s layered, experimental language. Standout pieces include a clean-cut bomber jacket loaded with details, a woven tapestry blanket that looks like it belongs in a cyberpunk interior, and a selection of graphic tees that alternate brand-new artwork with long-awaited reprints. Rounding out the lineup: a particularly well-executed short-sleeve shirt and a limited-edition all-over print tee, paired with a dedicated sticker pack that expands the collection’s visual universe.

Distribution follows a hybrid logic, in line with the project’s spirit: the collection will be available in person during the special screenings and inside the Tokyo exhibition, while the global audience will be able to shop it online via Brain Dead’s official website on Tuesday, February 3.
