Houses like a canvas, street art by Ian Strange

-
Emanuele D'Angelo

Ian Strange is a multidisciplinary Australian artist, his work investigates space and architecture and his works subvert the archetype of the domestic home.

Outside the artistic sphere, the Australian street artist is also a collaborator of Virgil Abloh, creative director of Louis Vuitton. Strange has been commissioned to design sculptures for commercial spaces in Melbourne, Sydney and New York.

He is best known for his “Suburban Intervention” projects and exhibitions. Using the suburban home as a canvas, Strange’s work includes large-scale projects, film, photography, site-specific installations, sculptural installations, drawing, painting, and ongoing research projects.

He manages to transform an ordinary house into something unique and spectacular. From the lettering in block letters to the “erasing” of houses (painting them completely black), to burning them or lighting them from the inside out, for Ian Strange the house is like a canvas.
