The story told in The Smiley Cut is that of Katerina Tsakiri, a story of healing, a journey through cancer treatment made lighter by the medium of photography. The images captured by Tsakiri narrate a transformative path that allowed her to take control of her body, even in such a complex moment. The setting reflects the photographer’s daily life as well—the forest near her home in Safjället serves as the backdrop to her personal place of refuge, part of her journey even through illness. Empathy and vulnerability, in the end, are the key elements of this photographic series, where the public becomes private and vice versa.
