Take a huge building and fill it with color, what will come out is The Horse Trotted Another Couple of Metres, Then it Stopped, the latest site-specific installation by Katharina Grosse.

The German artist, with more than 10 years of career behind her, has filled the huge Australian center of contemporary art Carriageworks with more than 90,000 square meters of fabric, changing its space and function.

Her installation, in fact, stems from the need to try to hide the true nature of a space by making it disappear or modify it without operating in a definitive way.
The fabric, the main actor of the entire work, falls softly from the ceiling creating a system of folds and drapes characterized by bright colors, in complete opposition with the dark and solemn environment of the gallery.

“I was fascinated by the thought of folding space, I was interested in taking this vast surface and shrinking it by folding or, actually, hiding the entirety of what’s there. I understand a painting as something that, as we view it, travels through us and realigns our connections with the world.”

Her installation was created on the occasion of the Sydney Festival 2018 and will remain visible until April 8th.
