Born in Slovakia, Tomáš Libertíny is an atypical artist, or rather his techniques are not as usual as you might think.
For several years, in fact, the Slovakian artist has been creating works of art together with colonies of bees that gradually give life to the sculpture he conceived.
He is certainly one of the artists who have an inordinate amount of helpers, perhaps too many (who knows how he will manage them all?!). But leaving aside our bizarre and funny questions, today we will talk about his spectacular series “Made by bees”.
If you think this is a simple kind of work you are very wrong. Each sculpture requires a truly impressive amount of work: before creating his latest work “ETERNITY”, Tomáš Libertíny had to work on it for two years.
First of all the artist creates a 3D model, but beware his use of industrial precision is simply “a means to an end” that allows him to create the conditions for controlled randomness.
After creating the supporting structure, let’s call it that, it’s up to the 60,000 bees to finish the work he started. Then it is his turn again to level the beeswax and make it perfect.
The relationship between man and nature, both psychological and physical, is his constant source of inspiration, although his personal series “Made by bees” does not yet count a large number of pieces, Tomáš Libertíny has already exhibited them almost all over the world.
