Who says you need a plane ticket, a suitcase and a booked hotel room to travel? If there’s one thing we’ve learned over the past year, it’s that there are a thousand ways to travel, to let your mind go far, to visit unexplored places without having to physically move.
This is precisely the effect of Maja Tomljanovic‘s illustrations.

Maja Tomljanovic is a young Croatian artist who, after years of working as a graphic designer, in 2016 decided to give it all up to follow her dream and pursue a career as an illustrator.

Given her success on Instagram, where she has almost 80,000 followers, and the clients she has worked with including Avon, Clarks, Harper Collins, Cosmopolitan and many others, we can safely say that her gamble has paid off.

Maja’s illustrations have the power to make us travel, in fact her favourite subjects are two and often paired together: women and summer. From Amsterdam to New York, from Paris to Portugal, the cities the artist illustrates are always easily recognisable and inhabited by young women looking out of a window and enjoying a breeze moving their hair.

Any scene from everyday life can become the perfect subject and Maja Tomljanovic has the power to transform even the simplest gesture into a masterpiece, such as hanging out the washing on an August morning.

We have selected just a few of Maja’s works, but to find out more follow her on Instagram and visit her website
