MARTELLATE, Marcello Maloberti‘s new exhibition, the most instagram-friendly of those to be visited in the coming weeks, has opened at the Milan Triennale.
The Italian artist’s works are self-portraits created through writing, thoughts cast on blank epigraphs, in which colloquial and poetic registers overlap, different tones of voice, to borrow a term used in online communication from which Maloberti takes inspiration. The project presented in these days is an accurate image of the increasingly frequent contamination between languages, which leads the more colloquial and social ones to elevate themselves to poetry, as direct tools for describing everyday feelings.
The calligraphic writing of the artwork exhibited in MARTELLATE is imprecise, with different letters and others that reflect the uniqueness of the gesture, such as the T that becomes a cross and the real distinctive feature of the texts.
The exhibition experience is enriched by a soundtrack that plays the voice of Lydia Mancinelli, Carmelo Bene’s life companion, recorded on the vinyl LYDIA MANCINELLI READS MARCELLO MALOBERTI. HAMMERED WRITINGS COOL 1990 – 2020.
The mise-en-scène created by the artist thus becomes a theatrical performance, made up of puns and philosophical cues. Everything is perfectly set in a time when words must arrive directly, perceived with the eyes before being processed for their meaning. Word games confuse a first reading, the familiarity of some phrases refers to known concepts, only to be disregarded causing a shock.
