The torches of Milano Cortina 2026, unveiled today in two simultaneous events at the Triennale in Milan and Expo 2025 in Osaka, represent an icon of innovation and sustainability for the upcoming Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. These torches, named Essential, stand out for their minimalist design and reflective finish that changes color depending on the light. The Olympic torch features shades of green and blue, while the Paralympic torch displays bronze tones, symbolizing the strength of the athletes and the bond between sport and nature. Eni and Versalis selected Studio Carlo Ratti Associati for the design development, and Cavagna Group for the engineering and production of the torch and its components.
The torches are lightweight and made primarily from recycled materials such as aluminum alloy and brass, and are designed to be reused up to ten times. The burner, powered by bio-LPG derived from renewable raw materials, emphasizes the commitment to sustainability. The handle is made with XL EXTRALIGHT®, an ultra-lightweight material, while the outer finish is treated with PVD technology to resist heat and enhance the iridescent effect.
