In the heart of the Roman summer, along the Tiber, a striking work has appeared. It’s called THE LOVERS and it brings with it all the magic of a dream that quite literally inflates before the eyes of passersby. The mind behind this installation is Millo – a.k.a. Francesco Giorgino – a street artist we know well.
The installation was created as part of TrasteverEstate 2025, in the stretch of river between Ponte Umberto I and Ponte Sant’Angelo, and is the result of a collaboration with Terrazza Tevere. With THE LOVERS, Millo – known for his dreamlike murals and iconic characters that inhabit cities and landscapes with an almost childlike delicacy – brings to life the first inflatable installation of his career, turning a long-held desire into a monumental reality.
Standing seven meters tall and eighteen meters long, THE LOVERS by Millo rises between water and sky, wrapped in a context as unique as Rome itself. Two figures locked in an eternal embrace, suspended in the muffled silence that only summer can create, seem to want to stop time, reminding us that love — like the city — is eternal, yet ephemeral.
Creating an inflatable artwork is no easy feat: it takes the right moment, the right space, the right energy. And in this case, everything aligned to welcome characters free to express their identity, without limits. THE LOVERS is a visual ode to love, to lightness, to freedom. An invitation to stop, to lie on the grass or along the river, to listen to the silence and lose oneself in the dream, just for a moment.
The installation was made possible with the technical support of @flyinsrl, who transformed an ambitious idea into a tangible presence, inflated with emotion and symbolism.
