Slowly the activities of museums and galleries are finally getting back on track and Pirelli Hangar Bicocca reopens its doors to the public with Neïl Beloufa‘s “Digital Mourning” exhibition. 

Born in 1985, Neïl Beloufa is a French-Algerian artist, born in Paris, and a leading figure in contemporary art. His research and production seek to analyse and represent contemporary society, which is why his installations adopt a language that is comprehensible to today’s viewer, using videos, feature films, sculptures and technologically complex installations that immediately evoke the universe of video games, the internet or reality shows.

“Digital Mourning“, which opens today and will remain open until 18 July, is the first major solo exhibition in Italy dedicated to Neïl Beloufa. The title, which combines the words “digital” and “mourning”, already reveals something about the exhibition, which will address one of the themes that characterize our society: the role of technology, which paradoxically is used to better understand life, simulating and recreating it.  

Entering the Shed space at Pirelli HangarBicocca, which has been rethought as an “amusement park”, the spectator is taken on a discovery of various attractions, sculptures and installations that invite him to reflect on themes linked to current events and the present. Right from the beginning, Neïl Beloufa has called conventions into question.

On the occasion of the exhibition, Pirelli HangarBicocca is partnering with the first-ever monograph about the artist, published by the Paris-based publishing house After 8 Books and designed by Oliver Lebrun. 

In addition, “Digital Mourning” is an essential step in preparing for “The Moral of the Story“, a project by Neïl Beloufa in collaboration with the Fondazione Henraux that will consist of four new installations exhibited in the amphitheatre of the Apple Store in Piazza Liberty in Milan.
