For many years, Paula’s Pantry was a beloved spot for sandwich and breakfast lovers in the heart of Manchester. This small shop, located at the end of a residential street, became a staple of the neighborhood, offering treats like the legendary Mega Muffin, handcrafted tarts, and traditional buttys and barms. When it closed its doors, Niall Hodson—an English photographer—decided to embark on a special project: documenting Paula’s Pantry’s final day through a poignant photo series.

With a menu featuring bacon, eggs, sausage, Spam, cheese, and tomatoes, Paula’s Pantry was a haven for students, workers, and families—a place to gather after a football match or during a lunch break. However, in 2024, Paula decided it was time to close the shop for good, stating that she was ready for a new chapter in her life.

Hodson captured the shop, its most loyal customers, and the community that came together to bid farewell to such a cherished spot. His images convey not just nostalgia but also the spirit of a business that had been a cornerstone of the neighborhood for nearly two decades.

Hodson’s work will be compiled into a 30-image zine, serving as a visual tribute to Paula’s Pantry and its ability to foster human connections over a simple sandwich. This project is more than just a homage to a shop—it’s a story about the strength of local communities and the significance of places that manage to feel like home to anyone who walks through their doors.
