NIGO x Levi’s®, “THE FUTURE IS IN THE PAST”

After the Pre-Spring 2022 LV² collection for Louis Vuitton together with Virgil Abloh, NIGO posted on his Instagram profile a video announcing his next collaboration that is symbolic of the HUMAN MADE founder’s inordinate passion for denim.

A capsule collection in collaboration with Levi’s®, the iconic American denim company around the world, that leverages NIGO’s incredible and deep knowledge of denim as a product and its history.

“I’ve been wearing these garments for 35 years, and now that I think about it, it was a very inexpensive purchase at the time. If the person who is going to buy this collaborative garment could wear it for 35 years like I have…that would make me so happy”, NIGO said about the collabo.

NIGO x Levi’s® seems to be the exemplification of what drives NIGO in the creative process, in fact the claim that accompanies the video presentation of the collabo is: “THE FUTURE IS IN THE PAST”.

The capsule features a pair of 501®s from 1915 and a Levi’s® Trucker Type II from the 1950s.

“I chose two of my favorite items. These are the items that I still wear regularly today . These pants and this jacket are actually over 40 years old”, added the founder of HUMAN MADE.

In the posted video we see what appears to be a young NIGO wearing the co-branded suit walk out of Harajuku Station, manifesting a sense of alienation as if he came straight from the past.
The young NIGO encounters the modern-day NIGO sitting outside his restaurant “CURRY UP” and sits next to it, pulls out his old cell phone that doesn’t work very well and then leaves immediately afterwards.
The modern-day NIGO pays no attention to the fact that that character looks like his 1996 self, reconstructed through digital technology, and quietly walks back inside the restaurant.
The video closes with the logo of the collaboration.

The NIGO x Levi’s® capsule collection is a limited edition, 100 pieces in all, and will be available for purchase through the HUMAN MADE online store and on levi.jp starting July 9th.
Below you can take a look at the video dedicated to the collaboration.
