It’s not unusual to meet Oliver Curson through Brighton streets, a photograph who is able to recognize to the city where he grew up the charm it deserves. 

Light is what distinguishes these shots: soft and warm, it frames the subjects in an endless almost always summer painting. We are introduced to local people and places with the intention of both allowing Brighton residents to see themselves and to increase curiosity in those who do not. 

Oliver Curson might appear to be a photographer of habit, as most of his work depicts the promenade during the golden hour. This is not only dictated by the light conditions he prefers and with which he is now comfortable, but also by the free time he manages to carve out for himself. In fact, photography is a passion for Curson that was born by chance, thanks to an Olympus OM1 35mm that his mother gave him for Christmas, and it has remained so, never managing to replace his main job.

Getting out of the comfort zone is crucial, especially for an artist. This is why, despite the love reserved for his golden images, some of Curson’s photographs are characterized by colder and winter tones instead. This is a challenge to himself, in order to make his creativity and observation skills evolve, without getting tired of the setting.
