Once you land on Ollie Jones‘s profile, you get sucked into a parallel universe with retro nuances—sometimes more contemporary—that strike for their dark yet captivating atmospheres. We wonder if the reason for this magnetic attraction can be traced back to the era of great disillusionment we are living in or to the eternal fascination with mysterious and dark characters. Perhaps it also has something to do with what we have called the age of squalor. The fact remains that the figures inhabiting Ollie Jones’s paintings seem to resemble us, their emotions like mirrors of a generation now lost in front of the screen. Or engaged in smoking a cigarette alone, in the back seats of a car or in the twilight of a distant city.
