During the Warner Bros. panel at the Comic-Con of San Diego, was shown the first trailer of Ready Player One, the new adventure film directed by Steven Spielberg and based on the novel written by Ernest Cline.
It’s the 2045. Earth is a polluted planet, overpopulated, and energy sources are almost exhausted. The only entertainment is OASIS, a virtual world created by the programmer James Halliday, which can be accessed through a simple viewer and a pair of aptic gloves. The protagonist, Wade Watts, starred by actor Tye Sheridan, passes his days inside the game, unaware that OASIS hides a dark side.
The movie draws dozens of references to pop culture icons, from film to comics, to Brad Bird’s Iron Giant robot, to Akira‘s bike of Katsuhiro Otomo, to Robert Zemeckis’s Return to the Future De Lorean. Like in Cline’s novel, the movie seems to be an encyclopedia of all that concert the sci-fi culture of the mid-1970s and late eighties. The fact that it is Spielberg to direct it gives a self-celebrating taste. And just as the novel speaks about the search for Easter egg, the quotes left by the author of OASIS within the virtual world, likewise made the author in the story and Spielberg in his film.
ILM is the leader production company in the world of vfx that has created visual effects and animations.
Ready Player One’s release is scheduled for March 30, 2018.
