The artist Kerry Tenbey has focused her research on personal need for investigation and criticism of the established concepts of Gender, Sexuality and Intimacy. Always interested in the material connections and experience of the objects that surround us in social interactions, Kerry destroys the mental associations that are often linked together through a dense network of pre-established ideas and converts them into something “disturbing and beautiful”.

Her sculptures are subversive pieces that explore the impact of physical spaces to reach the mental ones, drawing attention to the preconceptions that permeate our lives.

“We live our lives through a series of situations. We follow schedules, take directions, and navigate through spaces filled with material forms which dictate our movements and interactions”.

It is very common to find in her works, objects of daily or domestic use, which she reprocesses through a compound of plaster and cement, mixed in a trivial kitchen mixer. Kerry creates new forms, with the intent to get us out of a passive vision of what’s around us.

The use of pastel colours is not random, on the contrary, it’s strategically designed to overturn the ideas of femininity and masculinity.
