Born and raised in Riga, Roberts Rūrāns is one of the most interesting contemporary illustrators on the Latvian scene.
Influenced by cartoonists, graphic designers and northern European street artists, Roberts is distinguished by a textual and synthetic style that mixes simple and geometric shapes.

His art, halfway between analysis and synthesis, expresses stability and balance and his drawings, rich in primary colors and pastel shades, are lively and dynamic.
The protagonists of his works are mainly human bodies deprived of eyes, noses and eyebrows. For Roberts Rūrāns in fact only the mouth and body position are sufficient to show emotions.

Often engaged in extravagant tasks, his characters are handmade and painted with acrylic colors, the transition to digital is only the last step of the work.

Roberts creates illustrations for magazines, events and advertising campaigns. In Italy he worked for Icon Design magazine for Design Week 2019. 

This year he also published a zine entitled (Extra) Ordinary published by Kuš!, a small Latvian publishing house founded to spread comics in the country.
