With the return of the Venice Design Biennial, now in its fourth edition, Czech designer Tadeáš Podracký, winner of the 2021 VDB Residency, also returns to Italy.
His style is unmistakable. The wood is left raw, with its natural texture clearly in view and carved following a dynamic, undulating rhythm. Shiny, colored drops drip downward like stalactites in a cave and crystallize in the air.
His research, with an aesthetic that is at times organic and at times surreal, attempts to answer the question “what is true reality?” It is from this very question that Tadeáš Podracký conceives the work “Trees of Otherness” made especially for this year’s edition of VDB, focusing on the theme of auto-exotic.

Tadeáš Podracký questions whether the true reality is the one we create for ourselves or the one we accept from others. In this way, Podracký begins to explore imaginary scenarios, inner worlds he creates for himself. The result is a world in which the organic meets the ethereal, “a realm freed from all restrictions.” Product and interior design, as well as his large-scale installations, transform environments, reshaping the reality to which we are accustomed and breaking down established principles of “good” design.
