Y-3 Finds the Real in the Surreal

Two days ago, Y-3 unveiled its vision for Fall/Winter 2025 at the Pavillon Cambon in Paris, presenting a fusion of sport and fashion through technical innovation and creative expression. Since its inception, Y-3 – born from the collaboration between adidas and Yohji Yamamoto – has explored the boundary between opposites: light and shadow, analog and digital, real and surreal. This season, the brand once again pushes the limits with a collection that celebrates dynamism and craftsmanship.

Y-3 FW25

At the heart of the show, a spectacular LED screen installation recreated the atmosphere of a sports stadium, eventually transforming into a surrealist jumbotron adorned with adidas’ iconic stripes. This immersive visual narrative captivated the audience with its hypnotic storytelling.

The Y-3 FW25 collection stands out for its subversion of already bold silhouettes, focusing on protecting the body through garments inspired by functional sports equipment. From pants with knee pads to padded sleeves, alongside t-shirts, sweatshirts, and insulated bags, every element unites form and function. The designs emphasize the relationship between the body and the draping of fabric, accentuated by adjustable details that skillfully control volume.

adidas’ iconic Three Stripes are reinterpreted with moldable wire appendages, allowing garments to take on ever-changing configurations. The collection’s artistry draws inspiration from the Japanese suibokuga technique, evoking the aesthetics of fossilized amber and telling stories through fragments of history. For footwear, Y-3 combines high-performance running styles, GSG9 combat boots, and archival reinterpretations, all revisited through the season’s thematic lens.

Y-3-N: collaborating with NEIGHBORHOOD

A standout moment of the presentation was the debut of a collaboration with Japanese brand NEIGHBORHOOD, celebrating the visual codes of motorsport. Dubbed Y-3-N, this capsule features custom artwork by Death Spray Custom and protective leather garments created in partnership with Dainese, the Italian leader in racing gear. The collection was rounded out with racing suits and one-of-a-kind helmets that set the pace for the show.

Among the faces that graced the runway were model Gabbriette, basketball legend Candace Parker, skateboarder Marcos Montoya, and former French footballer Djibril Cissé – all figures embodying the innovative spirit of Y-3. The Y-3 FW25 collection is not just a series of garments but a celebration of fashion’s transformative potential, where the real and the surreal meet to redefine contemporary aesthetics.
