The Emotional Authenticity in Alejandro Giraldo’s Illustrations

Alejandro Giraldo, a Colombian illustrator making his mark in the creative world with his imaginative and instinctive approach, recently shared a new project titled Microheads, inspired by Aimé Leon Dore’s Fall/Winter lookbooks. In this collection, Giraldo takes a fresh approach, prioritizing speed and spontaneity over precision. In the caption on his social profile, he notes his intention to «draw as quickly as possible, letting his hand flow and accepting mistakes.” This technique allows Giraldo to capture the raw essence of Aimé Leon Dore’s aesthetic, interpreting it in a playful, almost stream-of-consciousness style.

In Microheads, Giraldo brings an emotional authenticity to his characters. Without striving for perfect lines, his illustrations are vibrant with life and texture, embracing the unexpected imperfections that arise when the artist lets instinct guide the creative process. Each line and contour reflects his desire to break with convention, welcoming imperfections as an essential part of his work.
