Amani Willett Illuminates the Shadows of Memory

Invisible Sun is the new book by photographer Amani Willett, coming in November 2025 from Dust Collective. It is a visual reflection on survival, transformation, and vulnerability.

A story built from photographs that seem to surface from the darkness of memory, giving form to what the body remembers when the mind falls silent.

The project springs from something profoundly personal: the artist’s confrontation with childhood medical traumas—experiences that resurface even as new ones emerge. Through an intensive therapeutic process, Willett finds himself reliving vivid and unsettling images of his younger self, which become the very substance of his work. The photographs collected in this book move between past and present, between the haze of recollection and the clarity of the moment.

Within the pages of Invisible Sun coexist images of his children, dark landscapes, experimental photographic processes, and AI-generated visions. It is a hybrid language, able to bring fragility and resilience, memory and imagination into dialogue. Each image becomes a fragment of a body telling its story in silence. Designed by Emily Sheffer, Invisible Sun presents itself as a book-object to be explored slowly—an intimate path that invites you to look into the shadows to find the light.
