Summer in the watercolours by Angela Mckay

Giulia Guido

Angela Mckay lives in Brooklyn but was born and raised between Australia and Thailand, and it is to these places that she takes us with her work.

Founder of Ohkii Studio, Angela creates beautiful watercolours that can then become anything: working with various brands, her works have become patterns for scarves, window displays and much more.

One thing is for sure, no matter what the medium, every time we see one of Angela McKay’s works it’s like a summer breeze caressing our faces and we start to hear the voices of people on the beach.

The artist is inspired both by the places where she was born and grew up, but also by the places she has visited during her travels, and in her watercolours she brings back glimpses and views trying to convey the atmosphere. From Portugal to Italy, from Thailand to Morocco, Angela Mckay’s watercolours are tickets to heavenly destinations where peace and tranquillity reign, where the sun tans the skin and the only thing to do is relax.

From a technical point of view, the artist makes her work entirely by hand and only once finished can it be screen printed or scanned and printed digitally. This choice maintains a sense of craftsmanship and, above all, enhances the rough texture of the paper typical of watercolour.
