Axel Corjon photographs the lights at night

Hong Kong, New York, Paris, but also Malaga, Amalfi and the villages of Normandy, Alex Corjon is drawn to urban centers, from small and provincial ones to the most important megalopolises in the world. For his latest project entitled “Alone in the night“, the French photographer has taken to the streets of these cities, in the middle of the night, to capture them in a new and unprecedented way, far from the common imagination.

Those same streets that during the day, in the sunlight, are so crowded that you can’t see the asphalt, at night they empty and in the middle of that darkness that covers everything, the only thing that resists is the light. The light of a traffic light, the light of a 24-hour grocery store, the light of street lamps, the light of a billboard, the light of a window.

While Axel Corjon’s long night walks are essential to his work, equally important is the post-production phase in which colors, shadows, and lights are almost exaggerated, creating unreal scenarios that completely and definitively move away from reality. Even the most famous places, the most famous Boulevards of the French capital lose their identity, could be any place.
