In Bari, Edoardo Tresoldi’s intervention is much more than a work of art

In the heart of Old Bari, among the ancient stones of the archaeological area of San Pietro, an artistic intervention by artist Edoardo Tresoldi is taking shape. It’s much more than an artwork: it is the result of four years of listening, research, and immersion in a place that has never stopped transforming.

The San Pietro archaeological area in Bari is not just a historical site, but also a place where the sacred and the human have repeatedly met and clashed. Layers of history overlap here, telling a continuous story of construction, destruction, and rebirth. Every transformation has left a mark, and every mark becomes a question. Here, the human gesture has become matter, ritual, memory—and now it becomes art.

The work that will rise in the coming months is not meant to close a chapter, but to add a new one—one that speaks in dialogue with everything that came before. It’s a delicate yet powerful action, capable of questioning our relationship with space, with history, and with what we call the “sacred.” What truly remains of a place? And what do we choose to remember?

The project is part of the broader effort to enhance the Archaeological Area of San Pietro and the Archaeological Museum of Santa Scolastica, promoted by the Ministry of Culture and coordinated by the Regional Secretariat of the MiC for Puglia, thanks to support from European funds. Finally, the images by Roberto Conte capture the silent intimacy of a place that is preparing to speak once again.
