Carole Mills Noronha is an Australian photographer who brings That Place He Goes to this edition of the Fotografia Calabria Festival, a project aimed at documenting her father’s journey through the labyrinth of Alzheimer’s and dementia. The photographer’s gaze conveys love, respect, and the need to tell a very personal and delicate story. Speaking about the project, Mills Noronha explains how this series of photos «documents my father’s journey through Alzheimer’s and dementia. Born in 1932 in a small town in the Mallee region of the Australian countryside, he was officially diagnosed with vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s in September 2018». This project thus becomes a way to preserve lasting memories of her father’s life, in the face of the slow fading of his lucidity over time. «My photos, in some way, replace the lost memories,» the photographer concludes.
