Have you finished all the TV series and movies that Netflix, Sky, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, and all the other streaming services can offer? Don’t despair, VITRA, famous Swiss design company, wanted to make a gift to its fans and its customers by producing a documentary completely focused on the object of everyday use par excellence, the chair. 
Chair Times, the title of the docu directed by Heinz Bütler, traces the history of the chair from 1807 to the present day through 125 seats from the collection at the Vitra Design Museum. VITRA presented Chair Times through the words of its chairman emeritus Rolf Fehlbaum, the narrator of the documentary.

“Chairs are important historical artefacts. They can represent the fashion and ethos of a particular moment in time or stand for an epochal idea. They are portraits of their users and reflect the production techniques with which they were created. You can recognise and understand an era – its social structures, its materials, techniques and fashions – by its chairs. I would go as far as to say that no other everyday object is so multi-faceted.”

The images of Chair Times are also accompanied by the testimonies of some of the greatest personalities in the world of design and architecture and some of the most important collectors such as Hella Jongerius, Antonio Citterio, Ronan Bouroullec, Arthur Rüegg, Ruggero Tropeano, David Chipperfield, without forgetting personalities such as the director emeritus of MAK Vienna/Los Angeles Peter Noever, Mateo Kries, the director of the Vitra Design Museum, the curators of the Vitra Design Museum Amelie Klein, Jochen Eisenbrand and the curator of the Serge Mauduit collection.
