Coin Operated Nicholas Arioli | Collater.al

What inspired the plot of Coin Operated, a short film by neo-filmmaker Nicholas Arioli, was the phrase “life savings”, according to the director a melancholy and hopeful concept at the same time.

The only protagonist of the animated short is, in fact, a child with a passion for space, who will then spend his whole life saving to be able to fulfill his dream, leaving on board a spaceship.

However, the animation does not set limits to the imagination, so the way to achieve the goal is not exactly orthodox and, although the mission of the character seems to us a self-sabotage we can not do anything but stand on his side. Cheering for him is a bit like cheering for ourselves, for our dreams. After all, each of us will be, or will sooner or later be, in the position of having to sacrifice time to reach half.

Although Coin Operated is the first film by Nicholas Arioli, who until recently was a computer scientist, the beauty, simplicity, and message that transmits immediately led him to be one of the short films in the running for the Oscar.
