The criminal world is a source of inspiration for works of art, films and cultural products that attract the public’s attention thanks to the mystery that hovers around stories of the underworld at every latitude.
What inspires the work of Spanish illustrator Coke Navarro is the yakuza, a Japanese criminal organisation that is also highly codified on an aesthetic level, with its division into gangs that run around with motorbikes and sports cars, dressed up or in overalls, often covering large tattoos all over the body, elements that return in Navarro’s works.

The illustrations created by Coke Navarro use only black and white to encourage maximum expressiveness of the characters portrayed. The style is inspired by the comics of the 1990s and more generally by the Japanese world.
The rough faces of bosses and hitmen emerge from the dark background, while light illuminates swords, guns and the bodies of the cars in which these criminals wait to enter the scene.
