Joy Yamusangie is an all-round artist, capable of spanning different techniques and disciplines, such as poetry, illustration, and typography.
Everything begins in Portsmouth, where the artist began her studies, a perfect path, the English city has undoubtedly helped her to express herself at her best.

An incredible style her, in fact in her works the chromatic aspect is without a shadow of a doubt the most interesting. Bright colors have always distinguished her, since childhood, her family loved these types of colors and even as a child she used to wear similar clothes.
An aspect that took hold during her travels in Congo, where her family comes from, she was immediately enchanted by the colored houses, painted pink, blue and yellow.
In all the works, which have been created in recent years, blue, in particular, plays a significant role. It is a color that is often associated with pain or melancholy.
One of the last exhibitions she organized, named after a work entitled “Blue Glass Fortunes”, the concept was not only sadness but blue as love, as a dream, as feeling free,” explains the artist.

In her drawings black faces and lines follow one another, she soon realized that one of the things she liked most was to sit with a mirror and draw self-portraits. She tried not to come to terms with herself, but to study herself deeply and appreciate herself as an act of self-love.

In a universe of strong brushstrokes and bold colors, it is easy to get lost and get to know Joy Yamusangie’s memories and personality.
