In the heart of the Saudi desert, amid ancient canyons and horizons that seem to stretch endlessly, Desert X AlUla opens its doors to the public once again with the 2026 edition, on view through February 28. An appointment that continues to redefine the relationship between contemporary art, landscape, and imagination, turning AlUla into an open-air space for visual and conceptual reflection.

Co-curated by Wejdan Reda and Zoé Whitley, together with founding Artistic Director Neville Wakefield and the returning Artistic Director for 2026 Raneem Farsi, this edition revolves around a title that is already a poetic statement: Space Without Measure. A theme inspired by the words of Lebanese-American writer and thinker Kahlil Gibran, who described dreams as boundless territories—impossible to contain within a precise form or measure.

It is precisely from this idea of limitless space that the journey of Desert X AlUla 2026 unfolds. The works engage with the landscape not as a mere backdrop, but as an active presence—capable of altering perception, stretching time, and questioning the ways in which human beings relate to the environment. The desert thus becomes a lens through which to observe possibilities, thresholds, and cycles: a place where art doesn’t simply occupy space, but interrogates it.

Following Gibran’s meditations on the cyclical nature of the human spirit and on imagination as a force without limits, the exhibition invites visitors to slow down, to get lost, to contemplate. Here, infinity is not an abstract concept, but a tangible sensation that emerges from the dialogue between artworks and territory, between artistic vision and geological silence.

Desert X AlUla 2026 thus remains one of the most ambitious platforms for site-specific contemporary art—yet also a perceptual experiment that challenges the very idea of what an exhibition is. A space without measure, indeed, where the landscape becomes thought and art an act of deep listening.
