Divot Mirror: Where Resin Becomes Light

Some designers love to give a playful touch to their work. This is the case of Divot Mirror, the resin mirror born from the collaboration between Danny Kaplan and Joe Algieri, a piece that looks as if it came straight out of a candy shop, where a material like resin has been transformed into solid light.

The frame, initially hand-shaped in clay, is then cast in a thick, vibrant resin, capable of preserving every tiny texture and every intentional imperfection. The result is a mirror that doesn’t just reflect the person looking into it, but also all the poetry of the gesture that created it.

The palette is playful and bold at the same time in all versions of the mirror. “Tangerine” is just one of the possible color variations of this mirror which, more than an object, is a wall sculpture. The fact that it looks like a sculpture draws us in to explore every detail, from the traces left by the resin to the small spheres outlining the shape of its structure.

Divot Mirror is an object that, with its playfulness (and versatility), shows us how design can still amaze and delight us through textures and materials that never fail to surprise—just like resin itself.
