Street artist KATSU is back with a very special exhibition, exhibiting a series of abstract paintings at The Hole in New York City. Entitled “DOT“, the presentation presents vibrant artwork made with drones.
KATSU has developed and refined the technology of drones in Russia thanks to a team of programmers and engineers.
The gallery room that houses the works initially served as an installation space where the artist flew a drone to spray a random pattern on seven white canvases.
“The installation was completely set up with the drone, including the composition of each painting. Extracted from their enameled environment, as well as the work on the back wall, the paintings can be considered as a traditional work of abstraction, perhaps part of the lineage of Warhol’s mediated and mechanized practice”.
KATSU started painting with drones in 2015, since then he has studied and developed various methods to create unique works.
Last year he built a fully autonomous drone in collaboration with Tsuru robotics in Moscow.
