A rain of bamboo kites has invaded the Chapel of San Cornelio of Governors Island with an installation entitled The Eclipse by artist Jacob Hashimoto. The paper globes are hung from the ceiling with pieces of strings set up in layers to reproduce a choreographic wave and cloud effect. The artist had already presented one of his labor-intensive creations on the occasion of the 57th Venice Biennale, at Palazzo Flangini.
Jacob is the kind of artist who is able to create parallel worlds to escape from reality and makes use of the most diverse materials and forms of art such as sculpture, painting, and installation. His captivating and stratified compositions refer to video games, virtual environments, and cosmology while remaining deeply rooted in historical-artistic traditions, in particular, abstraction, modernism and landscape-based craftsmanship.
