Visual Riffs is the new book by Ed Kashi published by Eyeshot, a limited-edition project that gathers over 45 years of images in a completely original form. It is neither an anthology nor a retrospective, but a reinvention: photographs taken in more than 100 countries are placed in dialogue with one another to tell social, political, and human stories that continue to resonate today.

The guiding principle, according to Ed Kashi, is that of a jazz riff: each sequence starts from a theme and unfolds as a visual response—improvised yet precise. Photographs distant in era and geography find new connections, generating unexpected narratives that give the book rhythm and movement. In this way, memory is reassembled, becoming living matter capable of saying something new.

“Visual Riffs” reflects Kashi’s belief that photography is a universal language, able to transform and speak to the present. The volume, produced in a limited print run and crafted with great attention to design, becomes a precious object in its own right, conceived to accompany the reader on a journey beyond borders and time.
