Take a Chinese girl and a Japanese boy. Throw in a love affair, a five-year difference and a cohabitation in Brooklyn, and what you might get is a collection of shots of an experimental relationship. Yijun Liao – aka Pixy – is of Chinese descent and for a long time imagined her love affair convinced that, as her country’s tradition dictates, it would be with a man older than her and that her needs would always take a back seat to his. That is until she meets Moro, a Japanese boy five years her junior. From that moment on, her idea of relationship and love changes dramatically.
She ironically captures scenes of intimacy with him without concealing the unexpected sense of power she feels she possesses in the couple. Each shot is a successful attempt to subvert some stereotypes about the roles within a couple as if it were one big experimental game.
