The renowned Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama announced two new exhibitions in March in NANZUKA that will be entitled: “Sex Matter” and “Trex”. The first will occupy the central studio of the gallery while the second will open in the “2G” studio of “Shibuya Park“.

Hajime Sorayama is known for his works depicting robots in erotic positions, but not only that, the Japanese artist likes to talk about those taboo topics mostly concerning the political and social sphere.

For his first and most significant exhibition “Sex Matter”, Sorayama has created robots in unusual, undoubtedly erotic positions. Through these works, the artist wants to emphasize the fact that “life in this world is born through the existence of male and female sex” and aims with his works to suggest new issues that go beyond the themes of physical appearance, artificial intelligence, and the post-human body.
A selection of 10 paintings will be exhibited alongside new sculptures on a human scale in order to emphasize the intimacy of his works.

While Sorayama’s second exhibition will be totally different, besides being hosted in another location, the exhibition entitled “Trex” will have five new sculptures. The protagonists, however, will always be his robots, the artist’s trademark.
There will be about five paintings of dinosaur robots depicting a Tyrannosaurus rex, Stegosaurus, and many others.

Sex Matter” will open on March 14, while “Trex” will open on March 13, both exhibitions will remain open until April 12.
