Human Connections According to Maria Siorba

Maria Siorba is a visual artist based in Athens, Greece. With a background in Fine Arts, Graphic Design, and Communication, she explores human connection, self-expression, and the instability of truth through photography, adopting a symbolic and poetic language. Her project Blank Verse will be exhibited at Liquida PhotoFest. Let’s find out more.

For Siorba, photography is a natural extension of her need to create, a path that began in childhood and was later cultivated at the Athens School of Fine Arts. “I was fascinated by the possibility of gathering raw material through photography and then transforming it to express what I wanted to communicate,” she explains.

In Blank Verse, Maria Siorba reflects on the human desire to access others’ inner worlds, despite distorted perceptions, individual struggles, and social pressures that make this process fragile and complex. “Despite new tools and psychological insights, truly understanding another person remains a challenge,” she says. Through a series of images dense with visual metaphors, the project suggests that authentic connection is not found through the search for absolute answers, but through the acceptance of uncertainty.

Her poetic approach stems precisely from the awareness that understanding another is not about solving a puzzle, but about listening. “I prefer to leave space for intuition and subjectivity,” she affirms. Thus, her delicate and layered images do not impose truths but safeguard the fragile and precious space of not knowing, where connection becomes possible.

Maria Siorba’s works will be exhibited at the Liquida Photo Festival in Turin from May 8 to 11, 2025.
