One night stand” was a one-night stand for Mathilde Steullet, to be consumed as one bites into a slice of pizza or a hamburger. The French photographer made her series inspired by the power of seduction of women who stare fixedly into the car testing the viewer’s voyeurism. Inside hotel rooms, the subjects feature symbols of 1960s and 1970s entertainment and culture, from fashion to design, with U.S. flags and tattoos prominently displayed. Mathilde Steullet’s women are modern Wonder Woman wearing cowboy hats and boots as confidently as they wear roller skates.

The artist’s training in collage led her to create surreal worlds, a style also carried over into photography. You can follow “One night stand” and the artist’s other series on her website and Instagram account.
