Stark Naked Exhibition, the solo exhibition of artist Michaela Stark, has just concluded in Paris. If you haven’t stopped by 35-37 rue des Francs Bourgeois, then Stark’s work is one of the things you absolutely must catch up on.

The starting point of this art and design project is the body, seen in an unconventional way, i.e. not as a harmony to be enhanced but rather to be deformed, constricted within corsets and tight clothing, which make it burst into bubbles, as if it were a bag of water.

However, Michaela Stark’s work is first and foremost a design project, to reflect on the problem of discrimination of plus sizes in the world of fashion, the image of a limited and selective vision of the concept of beauty.

Michaela Stark is an artist and performer, she works as a costume designer and wears in first person the unique pieces of lingerie that she creates with haute couture techniques. Each corset or garment in general is designed exclusively for a single body, a design idea that selects the different physicalities to carve out a moment of unique protagonism.

Stark’s works are also enhanced by photographs that the artist herself creates, to highlight through light and close-ups, the deformations of the body. There is also an eroticism that the London-based artist does not hide, made poetic thanks to silk and other hand-dyed fabrics, as well as the delicacy of ribbons, tulle and organza.
