If you pass through London and walk in front of the Tate Britain you see two giant snails walking on the facade of the museum don’t be scared, it’s Monster Chetwynd‘s, a Monster Slug installation.

To pay homage to the winter season, the British artist was inspired by Life In The Undergrowth documentary by David Attenborough on snail mating rituals and bioluminescence.

Bioluminescence is a phenomenon in which some living organisms emit light through chemical reactions and one of the cases that exist in nature is that of the burr of snails that illuminates during mating. That’s why Monster Chetwynd’s giant animals are covered with strips of LEDs that spread all over the facade of the building as if they had crawled through it and released their drool.

Monster Slug will light up the Tate Britan throughout the winter, until 28 February 2019.
