In Nichelino, on the outskirts of Turin, on the occasion of the second edition of Nichelino Lights Up Fest was presented “Gray Heron: The Good Immigrant,” a new mural created by street artist MrFijodor.
The Ligurian artist, who has been living right in Piedmont for years, has created precisely a mural that interprets the concept of home, choosing as a symbol of this metaphor a migratory animal typical of the area such as the grey heron. The bird represented by MrFijodor is the one that among migrators reaches the northernmost areas of the Earth, up to the Arctic Circle.

By realizing the subject through unconnected, cluttered, and sadly gray objects, the street artist wants to portray a critique of the conditions faced by migrants attempting to reach Europe by sea. Like the grey heron, migration is constantly threatened by external factors here represented visually through the details that make up the drawing.
It is home then that is the place to ideally find refuge, or the place to desperately seek at any cost but which needs a certain social consciousness to be understood externally. This consciousness, combined with environmental sensitivity, are themes MrFijodor often deals with in his works, as for example also in his recent interventions dedicated to the theme of water, which gave rise to the work “Pipes, taps, mountains and water with some fishes.” For the development of local tourism, on the other hand, the artist created “Connecting Nature,” in which nature, man and home are once again one big theme of artistic inspiration.
