The FestiWall 2018 was the fourth edition of the international festival of public art, which this year involved six artists who created six murals. The new works have joined the 16 of the past editions, further enriching the streets of the city of Ragusa.

The Dutch duo Telmo Miel has created a work entitled Preparato, dedicated to motherhood. A mother helps a son, equipped to face the future that awaits him, to wear a helmet. The future of the little protagonist is seen as an effect of what happens today in the world.

Mohamed L’Ghacham, a Spanish artist, has completed two walls. The first one, Antesala II, represents a personal memory through a house full of objects and photos. The colors and style are found in the second wall, El Baile, which depicts two elderly people dancing embraced.

Argentine street artist Pastel has donated a mural entitled Ghettification to the newest part of the city. The work depicts a fig tree in a pot and represents all those people who, due to economic problems, had to move away from the city center in the suburbs. For them, as for a fig planted in a vase, the future cannot be sure.

The fig tree returns to Ficupala, the work created by Dimitris Taxis. In this case, the plant is a clear homage to his homeland, Greece, but also to Sicily and Andrea Pazienza, the Italian artist who most influenced him.

The wall created by Alexey Luka, Excessive Care, is to be looked at very carefully because at first glance it blends in with the landscape around it. But then, observing it more carefully, you can distinguish the traits of two people. The artist has painted with a minimalist geometric style a figure who is trying to detach himself from another, like someone who tries to detach himself from the world around him.

Last but not least, HENSE has created his first horizontal work, made in the courtyard of the Liceo Scientifico E. Fermi. The final result, characterized by bright colors and geometric shapes creates an exciting contrast with the buildings that surround it.

Besides, German artist Clemens Behr has created two site-specific installations and Alex FaKso has presented his solo exhibition Unseen Places. For the first time at FestiWall an augmented reality exhibition project was made by the artist Luca Font in collaboration with the Milanese animation studio Alkanoids. Finally, the studio of Giuseppe Gurrieri and Nunzio Gabriele Scrives on the recovery of the Lanificio’s area, which this year was the headquarters of the event, was also exhibited. The two architects exhibited their masterplan Cose dell’altro mondo.

Once again, this year, FestiWall succeeded in transforming the city of Ragusa into one of the reference destinations for lovers of Street Art and its protagonists.
