He left us on Valentine’s Day with a work made in Barton Hill, vandalized a few weeks later, but Banksy came back and, like everyone else, had to find a different way to continue working without leaving home.
Is smart working for a street artist impossible? Not if you have a bathroom and you don’t care what your wife might tell you later.
“My wife hates it when I work from home.” writes ironically in the caption that accompanies the images of the last work that the artist published a few minutes ago on Instagram.
On the walls of what he says is his bathroom, there appear 8 rats, animals that Banksy has repeatedly released on the walls of our cities.
The last time was two years ago in Paris when, during fashion week, 6 murals were discovered, three of them with the rodent as the protagonist.
At that time the rats in question were a criticism of the French and European political system.
They were a symbol of disorder, a metaphor for the working class’s ability to subvert any economic and political situation.
Of the ticked-off days visible through the mirror, which today perhaps symbolize those that passed in lockdown, we find an identical version in the mural dedicated to the artist and journalist Zehra Dogan who was imprisoned because of censorship for having painted the Turkish flag on the rubble of the destroyed city of Nusaybin.
While we wait for a few words from the artist himself about his work, which may be late in coming, we can only imagine its meaning with the clues he left us over time.
