Ebb & Flow is a photography project by Najla Said, inspired by the photographer’s own story. It serves both as a love letter and a farewell to her hometown, Cairo. Raised in a society where silence was synonymous with discipline and obedience—especially for women—Said explores themes of femininity, identity, and resistance through her images.

Sisterhood According to Najla Said
Through intimate portraits of her friends, she documents her evolving relationship with the concept of womanhood. Her photographs go beyond mere representation; they create a space for solidarity and shared experiences—a “sisterhood” where self-expression can emerge outside societal constraints. In this way, Ebb & Flow becomes not only a reflection of her inner struggle but also a powerful statement on the complexity of femininity in Cairo.
